Candy Cones

These little candy-coloured cones make the cutest decorations to brighten up your home. Choose between five different textures including stockinette, mini bobbles, and cables to suit your yarn or attention level—all options are presented in both charted and fully written instructions.

Make just one to decorate your windowsill or desk, or a make whole forest! One 50g ball of sport weight yarn will be enough for two cones, making this an excellent pattern for your fun-coloured scraps and odd balls.

Materials Needed

  • For each cone, 1 ball of Scheepjes Stone Washed (78% cotton, 22% acrylic; 142yds/130m per 50g ball) or Scheepjes Twinkle (75% cotton, 25% polyester; 142yds/130m per 50g ball), or 47yds/43m (for stockinette cones) or 67yds/61m (for patterned cones) of light DK or sport weight yarn. A yarn that is more springy/elastic will be easier to work with in the cable and bobble textures than a less springy yarn

  • US 3 / 3.25mm needles (or needle size that gives you the right gauge) for working a small circumference in the round, plus needles a couple of sizes smaller for working the garter stitch base

    Note: I prefer to use double pointed needles for these as it’s a little easier to slip stitches between needles where necessary, but you are welcome to use magic loop or any style of needles you prefer

  • You will also need an end-of-round stitch marker, stuffing of your choice, a 3”/8cm cardboard or plastic circle to stabilise the base (optional but recommended), and a tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Finished Measurements

  • Dimensions when stuffed: 3.25”/8.5cm diameter at base, and 7”/18cm tall

  • You can alter the size of the cones by using a different yarn weight, keeping in mind that the yardage used will vary, or by adding/subtracting stockinette rounds between the decrease rounds for the Stockinette and Bobbles patterns.
